This morning I woke up and suddenly had these words pop into my mind. "We've lost something very important in my generation" I was still a little groggy so I didn't really think much of it. I went downstairs and sat down with my little bit of coffee and large cup of Jesus, and it started coming to me. "We've lost something very important in my generation" Or more accurately, we've lost many somethings important. I was reading about Peter and John, and their boldness to stand for the truth no matter what. They faced the scrutiny of the religious leaders, They were mocked, laughed at, and they were in constant danger of threats on their lives. But did they waiver? Not a chance. They stood for the truth. They stood for what they saw and knew to be true. These men had a confidence and a passion that is not often seen today. They weren't willing to bend the truth because of fear of what others might think or say... I think we call that integrity. Yeah, you don't see an abundance of that anymore. They had a goal, a mission, and they were going to do everything they possibly could to make sure it happened... If I am not mistaken, that's motivation. Yeah, we might have to look up the definition later. They had a faith that could move mountains... and If that's not lost already, then it is well on its way. Now I am not trying to put my generation down. In fact, I will say with confidence that I believe my generation has more potential and opportunity than any other generation before us. The problem? We're not using it. Maybe we don't know how, or maybe we are just so consumed with getting the perfect picture for Instagram, playing video games, or finding the perfect quotes on Pinterest to worry about what we can do to make an actual difference in the world. Today we see more depression, anxiety, and suicide rates in people my age than ever before. I can't help but wonder, could this be because we have lost our purpose? Motivation, integrity, & passion. These are all hidden treasures in our culture today. we learn more about how to make money and how to succeed in our careers than we do about how to succeed as actual people. What if, instead of having goals of becoming the next millionaire, we had goals to become the most generous, honest person that we could be. Instead of figuring out how to drag ourselves through college to get a degree, we figure out how what we could use that opportunity to help out our classmates and make a difference in their lives. I am a bit of a dreamer. But when I think of my future, I want to look back and see that I made the most of every moment. That I helped everyone that I could. That I didn't spend my younger years dreading every day of school and work, but instead I looked ahead and saw the opportunity that there is in every single day. I want to help my generation. So I am making it my goal, to pursue my potential. To set goals that actually matter, things like; making my personal relationships better, helping people know that they matter, gaining more knowledge, working on being a kinder, more honest, and more generous person. Because in the end, these are the things that are going to change our generation, These are the things that are going to bring true joy and fulfillment. I hope that you will all do this with me. We all need each other. I care about this generation, as I am sure you do too. Let's do everything we can to make it the best it can be. |
