“My life can be summed up in one sentence… “ “Well....That didn’t go as planned.” Who can lift their hand, nod their head or raise their voice in agreement? If I tried to count the amount of times I have made a plan and it completely did a 360 turn around, dramatic change on one hand… I would need 12 more hands. This seems to be a very consistent pattern in my life. And my guess is the majority of you can relate in one way or another. Maybe you know EXACTLY what I am talking about (or maybe you have no idea and my life just sounds like a bunch of crazy chaos). I never really noticed this until I entered into adulthood, and when I first realized this kept happening, I found it a bit frustrating. My “perfect life plans” seemed to always fall through… Let me give you some examples.
Now you might say… “ Well Caitlin,I don’t know if those are unexpected changes in plan or if you are just bad at making plans.” ...Point taken. But hear me out for a second. All of these things were good plans and very realistic I might add. I could have done any of them and they would have been awesome, great decisions. But God had different options in mind. Better options? I believe so. And here is what I can say about each decision. Every single one of those things brought incredible opportunity, immense growth, and they helped shape and mold me into the person I am today. And as frustrating as it was in the beginning I started to see these twist and turns on the pathway of life as exciting little adventures. I started finding peace in the pattern of change. Why? Because there has not been one single time where I have looked back and regretted or resented the change. Because no matter what the end result was, I could look back and see the way that God’s hand was upon each situation. So here’s what I’m saying friends. Life with God is an exciting adventure. There are all kinds of twists, turns ups and downs. He never forces us to do anything, but if we are in harmony with his spirit, he will show us things we could never have imagined on our own. And even if we try to imagine the best situation of life that we could possibly think of… God knows something better, and he doesn’t hold back. We just have to be willing to listen and to be obedient. Thing’s might not always go as planned, but instead of getting frustrated about them, let’s embrace that it’s all a part of the journey, it’s all a part of the story and it’s all a part of the adventure. So next time something doesn’t go quite as planned, GET EXCITED! Because something awesome could be right around the corner. |
